This book was born from the deepest parts of my heart—the raw, unspoken places of what it means to stand behind the badge.
When I first sat down to write Silent Warriors, I knew it wasn’t just a book for law enforcement wives. It was for anyone who loves someone who wears the uniform. Spouses, parents, grandparents, siblings, neighbors—it’s for the entire community of people whose lives are tethered to first responders.
Although my story is told through the lens of being a law enforcement spouse, it extends far beyond that. I may not carry the exact struggles of dispatchers, firefighters, paramedics, or nurses, but I know there are shared threads that connect us. The late nights waiting. The unspoken fears. The resilience built not by choice, but by necessity. My hope is that this book provides validation, comfort, and the reminder that none of us are truly alone in this journey.
You’ll notice a warrior spirit woven throughout the pages. That comes not just from my Norwegian roots but from the undeniable strength I see in those who stand in the shadows, holding the line at home. We may not always feel like warriors, but we are. We are the quiet guardians—the steady presence, the watchful protectors of home, heart, and healing.
Some days are calm. Parenting, working, and finding rhythms in ordinary life. On those days, I think of myself as holding my shield rather than wielding my sword. But when storms come—and they always do—we rise. We stand. We fight for our families, our officers, and ourselves. Fierce when needed, quiet when necessary—we are the strength behind the strength.
I also want to pause on the word resilience. It’s one I use with both reverence and reluctance. Resilience is what we are, but it hasn’t always been a choice. It was forged in fire, built because the alternative was to collapse under the weight of it all. Yes, we are resilient. But that doesn’t mean this life isn’t hard or heavy at times.
Through it all, my officer and I have a simple phrase: “You and me, we got this.” Now, my friend, I say the same to you—you and me, we got this.
This fight—for awareness, for change, for support—has only just begun. Writing Silent Warriors was my first step in shifting the narrative, in challenging the beliefs around how first responder families are supported. Because they matter. You matter.
